Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy: An Additional Therapy for Healing

Hyperbaric oxygen treatment is an important therapy offered at our center. Patients who are approved by their insurance for hyperbaric treatments breathe 100% oxygen for a prescribed amount of time. The purpose of hyperbaric oxygen treatment is to increase the amount of oxygen in all body tissues so healing can take place.

  • Diabetic foot ulcers
  • Osteomyelitis
  • Radiation necrosis
  • Compromised grafts and flaps
  • Gangrene

How Does Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Work?

During hyperbaric oxygen therapy, you are placed in a pressurized chamber where you breathe 100% oxygen. This increases the presence of oxygen that can be delivered to the wound and thus aids in healing and growth of new tissue. Depending upon the reason for your referral to hyperbaric medicine, the therapy will be used based on your specific needs which may provide one or more of the following benefits:

  • Advanced wound healing
  • Increased oxygen delivery to the injured tissue
  • Greater blood vessel formation
  • Improved infection control
  • Preservation of damaged tissues

Your planned treatment course will be discussed with you in detail prior to starting therapy.
