Getting to Know Angela Hicks, Environmental Services Supervisor

Tell us about a day in the life when you’re at work.

My day usually starts around 6:00 am.  I like to arrive early to make sure everything is in order and I do a walk through to make sure that our hospital is ready to receive our guests. Our goal here at Texas Health Huguley is to ensure that we are providing a clean and healthy environment for our guests.

What do you love most about your job?

I love my job because I get to play a major role in the healing of our patients. Each and every day, I get to live out our mission by keeping the hospital clean and safe for our Texas Health Huguley family, patients and visitors.

Tell us about the ones you love the most.

I love my family, which includes my nine wonderful grandkids. I must say my Texas Health Huguley family, which I’ve known for 18 years and some fewer than that, have really made me feel like one of their own. They have always been there for me when I have any problems. They are there for me mentally, physically and will shower me with prayer.

About 10 years ago, my oldest son came through the ER after being sick for a few years. He was scared to get treated because he has a fear of hospitals. After my son’s health started declining, I talked him into coming to the ER where he was treated by Dr. Qassam and Dr. Haslam. They informed us it could be cancer, but further testing would need to be done. Throughout the whole experience in the ED of facing the unknown and my son refusing to be admitted into the hospital, I felt like we were the only patients in the ER. Their caring hearts made me feel relieved and I felt the weight being lifted off my shoulders. All the departments, nurses in the ER, lab and respiratory department were extraordinarily special. Every department that was involved in my son’s care treated us like one of their own.

With that being said, I do my best each day to treat our guests and my coworkers with the same love and respect that was given to my son and me. I want our patients to walk away with the same feeling I had as a guest here at Texas Health Huguley Hospital.
