At Texas Health Huguley, our associates make the difference. That's why we look for skilled, professional personnel to help us fulfill our goal of providing extraordinary service. At the heart of Texas Health Huguley's success is its dedication to providing the finest healthcare while living out our mission of serving people like those we love the most.
We’d like to introduce you to Racheal Torres, Patient Access Receptionist.
Tell us about the day in the life when you’re at work.
I begin my work day at 5:30 a.m. Check-in for surgery starts at 5:45 a.m., so I usually have an early patient greeting me as I get here. I quickly clean my work area and begin. Checking in consist of activating the account, checking insurance authorization, obtaining consents and collecting any payments. As soon as outpatient surgery is ready for the patient, they’ll page them and I walk them back. My co-partner Misty comes in at 6 a.m. and we continue this flow throughout the day. We also check-in pretesting, add on registrations, handle financial counseling requests and update lab accounts so that they can be billed out properly. Being at the front desk, everyone comes to us and calls us for guidance. With the help of our lovely volunteers, we are able to keep up with the flow of patients and visitors who need assistance.
What do you love about your job?
What I love about my job the most is that no day is the same. I love to see and be around all types of people. I like to have challenges and something new to learn every day. People come to us sick, scared, frustrated and happy. Whatever the situation may be, I try to be as helpful as I can to leave an impression so that one person whether it be a patient, visitor or associate can say “I can ask Racheal.” When I get described as being the face of Texas Health Huguley I laugh it off, but I do take it seriously. From helping someone find out where their appointment is to learning a new program, I know that I am lucky to be in my position.
Tell us about the ones you love the most.
My husband and I have three teenagers, two who are starting high school. Yes, I have high schoolers, and I can’t believe it either! They are all involved in sports throughout the school year. Summertime is our favorite time of the year. We like to make it our break time from the stressful school year by making memories on vacations and enjoying our weekends at the lake.
As for my work family, which includes the volunteers, my job would not be the same without them. We work together and acknowledge when one needs help. I am blessed to be part of such a great team
