eginning July 6, Huguley Fitness Center and the Arthritis Foundation introduce Walk With Ease. The program is designed to help those who are struggling with arthritis to create behavior change and arthritis management.
The Walk With Ease program will help participants slowly build up to thirty minutes of walking while learning strength exercises and stretches that will help the muscles and joints become more flexible. Walk With Ease offers support, information and tools to help everyone reach their goals.
“Both those with arthritis and those without arthritis are encouraged to participate because everyone can benefit from a walking program,” said Huguley Group Fitness Instructor Sheri Hayworth. Not only does walking strengthen joints, but it also benefits the heart, lungs and bones. According to the Arthritis Foundation, walking can help weight loss and reduce the risk for arthritis, heart disease and diabetes.
The class is open to people of all ages, fit or not-so-fit. Non-members can purchase a program card for $28. The ideal participant must be able to stand for at least ten minutes without increased pain.
The six-week class will be held on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings at 8:30 a.m. starting on July 6. Every participant will be required to purchase a workbook for $10 (this is a one-time purchase and can be used multiple times) and complete a participant release form.
