Nancy Herbein, RN, CNOR, a surgical nurse at Huguley Memorial Medical Center, will compete in the perioperative quizbowl at the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses Congress on April 2 in Anaheim. She and four other nurses from area hospitals comprise the Cowtown Posse, which completed two rounds of on-line testing to advance to the finals. The four highest scoring teams will compete in front of an audience of 10,000 at the nursing conference.
The quizbowl will pose questions regarding evidence-based practice and nursing research affecting patient and nursing safety. To answer the questions, Mrs. Herbein will draw on more than 35 years of nursing experience and a nursing degree from Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore, Maryland.
Other members of the Cowtown Posse include:
Anne Mattern, RN, Cook Children’s Medical Center
Elise Grant, RN, Texas Health Harris Fort Worth
Krista Johnson, RN, Texas Health Harris Southwest
Shawnee Pitman, RN, Baylor All Saints Hospital.
Most of the Cowtown Posse have leadership positions in the local chapter of the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses. Mrs. Herbein, who lives in Arlington, serves as president elect.
