Prepared Childbirth

A brief evidence-based overview of childbirth education and labor support techniques for those delivering at Texas Health Huguley Women’s Center.

In one class, we will highlight the basic facts about childbirth preparation as well as our practices at Texas Health Huguley. We will help you prepare for a confident birth experience by exploring the signs and stages of labor, medical interventions, options for pain management, natural comfort measures and postpartum care. Recommended for first time parents and a great refresher course for returning parents. A hospital tour is included during the class.


Breastfeeding Class

This class is a great way to learn about breastfeeding. Information is provided on all aspects of breastfeeding including making an informed feeding choice, recent research, avoiding problems and building confidence. It is recommended that you take this class in mid-pregnancy. Partners are encouraged to attend with moms.

Topics included:

  • Benefits of breastfeeding to baby, mother, and father
  • Getting ready for breastfeeding
  • Knowing your baby is getting plenty of milk
  • Role of fathers of breastfeeding babies
  • Pumping and storage will be introduced

Lactation consultants are available while the patient is hospitalized at no additional cost.


Prenatal Fitness

Exercise classes for all pregnant women. Please join us for low-impact prenatal workouts designed to increase flexibility, strength and cardiovascular fitness throughout your pregnancy and beyond. 


Infant and Child CPR Class

Attend a Family & Friends Infant and Child CPR Course to learn training in basic lifesaving skills. The course is NOT intended for those individuals who have a duty to respond to children’s health emergencies. It’s never too late or too early to learn this lifesaving skill!

The information taught includes:

  • Infant rescue CPR
  • Relief of the choking infant
  • Injury prevention
  • Recognizing and treating basic first aid emergencies

Baby Basics

Come practice how to bathe, diaper, swaddle and comfort the baby as well as safe sleep practices, recognizing baby’s cues and newborn characteristics.


Cesarean Birth

This class is for patients who are preparing for a planned cesarean birth. Topics discussed include:

  • reasons for a cesarean birth
  • the cesarean birth process
  • anesthesia discussion
  • recovery
  • postpartum
  • tour of the Women’s Center

Grandparents 101

Babies have not changed but what we know about them has. Led by a nurse, this class covers what has changed in prenatal care and birth, infant care and how to keep your grandchildren safe. During this class, grandparents will learn about:

  • safe sleep practices
  • soothing and calming techniques
  • car seat safety
  • how to support your own children as they step into parenthood

Pregnancy App
