Jason Neef, M.D., an OBGYN with Texas Health Medical Associates, is now offering Laparoscopic Tubal reversal, as well as Essure reversal, at Texas Health Huguley Hospital Fort Worth South.
A tubal ligation reversal is an operation that allows a woman who has had a tubal ligation a chance at pregnancy again. Tubal reversal is an outpatient surgery performed laparoscopically under general anesthesia. The tubes are reconstructed using microsurgery in a one to two-hour procedure.
Essure is a permanently implanted birth control device for women. It was created as a form of tubal sterilization, which is often referred to as “tube tying.” Essure was discontinued in 2018, with many patients having suffered ill effects and complications from the device.
Dr. Neef is one of only a few doctors in DFW who offer tubal and Essure reversal procedures. Reversal allows a woman who was previously sterile the ability to become pregnant without having to undergo in vitro fertilization (IVF). IVF can be expensive and time consuming and it has significant hormonal side effects, increased risk for multiple pregnancies and only allows for one pregnancy per cycle. According to Dr. Neef, an Essure reversal is a more cost-effective way for a woman to become pregnant, with fewer side effects.
“This procedure offers women a chance to start a new chapter in their lives,” says Dr. Neef. “When a woman goes through life changes, whether that is a new relationship, improved stability or a loss in family, her reproductive desires change. This procedure allows a wonderful new addition to be made to her family.”
