Texas Health Huguley Hospital Fort Worth South has added a new MRI machine with patient friendly features at the office of Lone Star Orthopaedics and Spine Specialists.
“Lone Star wanted to have a one-stop shop to see patients and have an MRI completed,” said Diane Hanson, director of radiology and imaging services at Texas Health Huguley Hospital. “That’s what motivated us to find a new, improved imaging system.”
Lone Star Orthopaedics moved in May to its new freestanding clinic on the southeast edge of the Texas Health Huguley campus. Immediately, Lone Star began seeing patients and now is able to supply its patients with on-site MRIs, saving time and travel from various locations and faster results.
Having sophisticated diagnostics, physicians and physical therapists under one roof provides efficient and convenient care to outpatient orthopedic patients.
The new MRI machine, a Toshiba Vantage Titan 1.5T, combines advanced digital imaging with features designed to improve the patient’s experience.
The machine’s patient friendly innovations reduce the anxiety experienced by some when having an MRI. Providing twice as much clearance from nose to magnet than other systems that label themselves as an “Open MRI” calms many who suffer from claustrophobia or who are uneasy about having the scan. Feet-first imaging, increased patient comfort and an impressively quiet experience also help allay any patient fear.
“We can now accommodate patients up to 440 pounds with the new 71 centimeter diameter. Most other MRI bores are 60 centimeters in diameter and only serve patients up to 350 pounds,” said Lauri Hewitt, MRI technologist at Lone Star Orthopaedics.
About Lone Star Orthopaedics
Four board-certified orthopaedic specialists and a podiatric surgeon have interests in spine, trauma, joint replacement, sports medicine, hand surgery, foot and ankle conditions, and general orthopaedics. The physicians, who have more than 70 years of combined experience, share the viewpoint to first seek non-operative solutions for each patient. At their clinic physicians can complete orthopedic care, from diagnostic testing to rehabilitation, in one location where communication and relationships can grow between patients and the practitioner. This orthopedic center includes a satellite Texas Health Huguley outpatient therapy center, allowing the possibility of beginning therapy the same day as his or her doctor’s visit.
