Texas Health Huguley Hospital Fort Worth South will offer free digital screening mammograms during extended hours on Tuesday, December 13 to women with no health insurance or who are underinsured. The event is sponsored by a grant from Susan G. Komen® Greater Fort Worth Affiliate.
“About 22% of women in this area are uninsured, which makes it challenging for those women to receive regular mammograms,” said Diane Hanson, director of radiology at Texas Health Huguley Imaging Center. “By partnering with Komen, we can provide access for local uninsured women to receive a free digital screening mammogram, potentially catching any cancer early when it’s most easy to treat.”
“Besides eliminating the expense, we offer extended appointments from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., so it’s convenient to receive this important health screening,” said Hanson.
In the event of an abnormal screening mammogram, additional testing is also available courtesy of Susan G. Komen® Greater Fort Worth.
Mammograms are available by appointment only. Light refreshments and gifts will be offered to those participating in the Free Mammo Day.
Texas Health Huguley has provided free screenings to approximately 700 local women at its seven previous Komen-sponsored events and anticipates screening about 100 more on December 13.
To qualify for the free mammogram, women must be at least 40 years old, have no health insurance or be underinsured, and live in Johnson, Tarrant, Hood or Parker Counties.
Those who would like to participate in the Free Mammo Day must preregister by calling 817-551-2787. Limited spaces are available.
