The excitement is building for the 2012 Miss Texas pageant, held July 4-7 in Allen. Huguley Memorial Medical Center is excited that one of the contestants has turned to the Huguley Fitness Center
to prepare herself for the challenge. Anna Combrink, a Burleson native and Burleson High School graduate, says Huguley was the right choice for her.
“Huguley Fitness Center offers what I need for my fitness routine,” explains Anna. “I like the wide variety of classes here, such as yoga, Pilates and Zumba. And there are both free weights and weight machines.”
Combrink has more ties to the area: two of her cousins were born at Huguley. Her mom, Mary Combrink, and brother Noah both live in Burleson. Her preparation for the pageant includes working out, eating healthy, volunteering and following current events. Pageant contestants are required to study positions of both presidential candidates on key public policy issues. Combrink is also volunteering in an after school mentoring program for low income children in Crowley. Under her leadership, students receive one-on-one tutoring to improve their grades.
Combrink attends UTA where she will be a junior in the psychology department this fall. When asked about the burden of wearing a crown, she confessed that it’s more difficult than it looks. “Wearing a crown is challenging. It’s made of metal and quite heavy. You have to really pin it down to keep it in place.”
Preparing to meet that challenge – and more – at the pageant next week, Combrink continues her daily workouts at Huguley Fitness Center. For more information on the fitness center, visit huguleyfitnesscenter.com. For more information on Anna Combrink and the pageant, visit annacombrink.com.
