Texas Health Huguley Introduces Mr. and Mrs. Don Gregory!
Engaged Burleson couple exchanges vows in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at Texas Health Huguley Hospital Fort Worth South on Friday, June 3.

On May 25 Don Gregory was suffering with a life-threatening illness that affected every organ in his body and was immediately taken to Texas Health Huguley emergency department where he was stabilized and admitted to the MICU. Fiancé Susan Lewis accompanied him along the way.

Friday, June 3 was the date the couple originally had scheduled to exchange vows. With Don’s medical emergency, the couple had planned to postpone the wedding.

“Don is my miracle fiancé, without Texas Health Huguley, I thought I was going to lose him,” says bride Susan Lewis. “The hospital gave us a nicer wedding than I could have ever imagined, our plan was to go to the courthouse.”

From the MICU nurses, nutrition services, social workers, therapy services, and administrative team, all hands were on deck to provide the couple with a wedding ceremony to remember.

“Don and Susan met 13 years ago in an AOL chatroom,” says Mandy Gregory, Don’s daughter. “Susan is the light in my daddy’s eyes because she gives him something to look forward to in life.”

“We are not just here to improve the health in the communities we serve, but also to serve each person as those we love the most,” says Eric Klein, MICU Nurse Manager. “We are so excited to be able to share in this moment and make it special for Don and Susan.”

“Now that we’ve celebrated Don’s wedding with him, we’re ready to celebrate his health,” says Klein. “Don will be moving from MICU to a general medical unit.”

Susan shares, “Don has made a miraculous recovery, now I’m ready to spend the rest of my life with him.”

The Texas Health Huguley MICU is staffed by critical-care certified nurses and physicians to provide the highest level of care in life’s most critical situations.

Texas Health Huguley is constantly looking for ways to improve patient experience. Team members are empowered to create an environment and develop relationships that go beyond the medical needs of their patients.

The hospital will open its doors to a brand new six-story hospital in August. The new Texas Health Huguley opens in August, the community is invited to celebrate the grand opening on July 17, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. For more information, visit
